Week 2: A Pixel a Day
I had this idea a while back that I would learn how to paint in an unconventional way to supplement my design practice. I see painting as one of the highest and hardest forms of visual art, and being able to paint, even if in a rudementary way would train my eye to produce more compelling visuals for websites and whatever else I design.
Along these lines, I decided to pursue painting in an unconventional way by tweaking the typical process of painting to accomodate the greatest modern convenience: computers.
My escapade to paint a pixel a day, or start with a 1 pixel painting and increase the canvas size each day, quickly fell apart out of boredom/laziness. But here I see an opportunity to bring it back! My plan is as follows:
I will paint 5 paintings a day (ideally), so that I have ~hundreds of paintings by the day of the exhibition, and all of these will be printed out en masse on letter-sized paper. The best of the best will be hung on a wall and given special treatment, and the others will be loose on a table to be taken. In addition to printed matter, I will also set up a CRT monitor with a slideshow that scrolls through all the paintings for the duration of the exhibition.
